Do you know that Employers (sponsors) have to insure domestic helpers?
Yes, Medical Insurance for Domestic Helpers in Dubai is must, a domestic helper is an individual who works within the employers’ household (home). Domestic helpers include drivers, housekeepers (general home workers) maids and nannies.
With the implementation of Dubai mandatory health insurance Law (Law No. 11 of 2013 regarding Health Insurance in Dubai) all workers who hold a valid residence permit issued by Emirates of Dubai need to have health insurance coverage throughout the expiry of residency.
Since we are now in the final phase of implementation, all individuals sponsoring domestic helpers (Maid, nannies) need to ensure they provide required health insurance coverage to their workers before the 30th June 2016. Sponsors failing to source insurance cover will be penalized with a fine of 500 AED per employee for each month of delay. However, the imposition of penalties for domestic helpers will be delayed until beginning of upcoming year.
After press Release on Monday 30th May 2016, The Authority Director of Health Insurance Dr. HAIDER AL YOUSUF advised residents to apply for medical insurance before the deadline.
Nine Attested Insurance Companies by DHA are offering EHB Package (Essential Health Benefits) to Dubai Residents.
Cost of EHB Insurance Package?
As per Dr. HAIDER AL YOUSUF EHB is a community Package which starts at a minimum of 565 AED, maximum of 650 AED per year.
What include in health cover Package?
The basic cover includes outpatient consultancy at clinics, maternity health cover , referrals to specialist and for surgical and pathology investigations, emergency visit to hospital and any surgeries required. While employers have group insurance schemes for their employees, a resident can shop for a tailor-made cover for his dependents that includes spouse, minors and domestic house help.
The EHB plan covers employees in the whole Emirate of Dubai and all around the UAE for emergency treatment with customer service access to multilingual support including Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi ,Tagalog and Bengali Languages.
