Speaking on the
sidelines of the Filipino Community Leadership Summit 2018 in Abu Dhabi on
Friday, the new Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Hjayceelyn M. Quintana, said
a delegation from the Philippines department of labour will be coming to the
UAE next week for discussions on matters of mutual interest with the Government
of United Arab Emirates which will also include the issues of Filipino domestic
workers.
Lifting Ban on Recruitment of Filipino Domestic Workers:
"We will be
holding a joint-labour consultation meeting with the UAE officials which will
involve issues of Filipino workers here," said Quintana. "After these
discussions, we will be making an official announcement on the issue of lifting
the ban on recruitment and employment of new Filipino domestic workers to the
UAE."
Announcement Pending by Philippines Government:
The Philippine
government last year signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAE
Government on cooperation in the recruitment and employment of domestic
workers, but the Philippine government has not yet officially announced the
lifting of the ban on the recruitment of domestic workers to the UAE.
